A Relocation Chart
I do not have a lot of experience with relocation charts. I know that the basic procedure involves casting a chart for your day and time of birth, with your new location instead of your birth place. You then see if the house cusps change much and what that change might involve. Seeing as how I’m going through with a move in a few months, I decided to cast one and see if there were any major changes.
Indeed, the new chart reveals some interesting results. My ASC moves nine degrees from 20 Scorpio to 29 Scorpio, and my Midheaven moves fifteen degrees from 2 Virgo to 17 Virgo. Because of this significant axis movement, there are a lot of planets that switch houses:
Sun moves from the seventh house to the sixth (though it is still only 5 degrees from the DSC)
Moon moves from the eleventh house to the tenth
Mercury and Venus stay in the seventh, though Venus is now only four degrees from the DSC
Mars stays in the sixth, but is now only four degrees from the sixth house cusp instead of being six degrees off the DSC like it is in my natal
Jupiter and Saturn are now firmly in the tenth house instead of in the tenth house, but conjunct the 11th house cusp
Uranus moves from being in the first house, eight degrees from the ASC, to being technically in the 12th house, but about a degree off the ASC
Neptune moves from being in the second house, four degrees from the cusp, to being in the first house
Pluto remains in house eleven
Also, Sagittarius and Gemini are intercepted (basically the first and seventh house signs), whereas in my natal chart, Aquarius and Leo (my 3rd and 9th house signs) are intercepted.
With the switches from the seventh to the sixth and the eleventh to the tenth, this relocation chart actually reflects the relocation charts for my last few moves–the emphasis is on working hard (prone to fits of overwork) and a concern with public presentation and reputation. However, at my current location, the relocation chart has a 0 Sagittarius ASC, so this relocation actually puts my ASC back “where it belongs” naturally. It also puts the DSC in the sign of my Sun instead of the sign of my Venus. Indeed, this relocation marked a significant change in the type of people I was attracted to (and with my natal Libra/7th house focus, I learn much about myself via the people I am attracted to and find myself in relationships with), and it also marked a period where I felt somewhat “cut off” from all the people I had known prior in my life.
I believe this means a number of things, some good and some bad. I will be making a few moves in the next few years, as I go through temporary stages in my career apprenticeship. If these relocations are all to places where the relocation ASC is in Scorpio, I will probably look at this period in my life as somewhat of an aberration–a phase where I investigated certain aspects of my personality and made some changes, but eventually returned to my “normal” self. I will also probably drop out of contact with most of the people here, and may even find some distance between myself and my best friends that I made here. I will have to make a strong effort to keep in touch with these folks and not “throw them aside.” When I compare these comments with the comments I made on my lunar return chart, I see a strong connection. In fact, looking at this relocation chart makes me wonder if I haven’t already been moving my behavior in this “what an aberration” direction already. The people I have been hanging out with recently are more like my “old” friends than my new friends, and I have noticed a stronger desire to contact those old friends (after years of almost avoiding them and wondering how they fit in with the “new” me).
Balance, balance, balance–it’s always the thing with me. Now that I’ve gone through this relocation with the Sagittarius ASC as a thinking adult (I actually had quite a few relocations with a Sagittarius ASC between the ages of 2-8; a time that always seems very remote to me), I need to look at both these ways of appearing (or, perhaps more importantly, the two types of people drawn to me–the Tauruses and the Geminis) and figure out a way to reach out to both sides and not cast aside anyone who has been kind to me in my many travels.
